Want to get wet, get a terrific workout, and have a great time all
while helping make the world a better place? Spend a day stocking Atlantic
salmon into the Merrimack and Upper Connecticut Rivers in New Hampshire.
Seasonally, the
New Hampshire Fish and Game
Department needs volunteers to release nearly a million and a half small
Atlantic salmon -- known as "fry" -- into several rivers and streams as part of
Atlantic salmon restoration efforts. Volunteers must sign up in advance. You can
find out more about the March and April call for volunteers by visiting the
department's website.
The department has many other volunteer opportunities, from butterfly
monitoring to pine barrens habitat restoration. New in 2007 is a dragonfly
survey. Required training in dragonfly identification
and survey methodology will be in late May. Contact the Non-game Program by
calling 603-271-2461 or email wildlife@wildlife.nh.gov.
