The bottom line

A comfortable bicycle seat makes all the difference

Don't let an uncomfortable seat keep you from getting on your bike and enjoying the outdoors. (Tim Jones photo)

Serious bikers are going to scoff, but I’m convinced that uncomfortable bike seats hinder lots folks who might otherwise enjoy biking.

I’ll spend money willingly to get a seat I can live with. But even the best bike seats seem to require a break-in period that can be uncomfortable. If you love to bike, you just live through it.

A new company called Stylyx claims to have invented a bike from the seat up. It’s clearly in the “comfort” bike category -- the kind you ride to the post office and back (not a bad idea with the price of gas these days). No one would ever choose it for serious road biking, off-road or even regular commuting.

But if a sore seat is what’s keeping you from biking, check out this and other “comfort” bikes. Any biking is better than no biking.
