| It boggles the mind. Every year, without fail, the very best skiing and riding of the whole season happens at the end of March or in April, on magic days when the sun is bright and warm and the snow is buttery soft and the slopes are empty because most people have put away their gear thinking the season is over.
My sweetheart Marilyn and I had hoped to find conditions like that at
Sugarloaf in mid-March of 2006. What we found instead was full-on winter with cold temperatures, gusty winds, and beautifully groomed corduroy snow in the mornings. Conditions like that will add two more weeks to the season.
Visiting Sugarloaf is like spending time with an old friend. ItÆs on my shortest short list of ôfavorite mountains,ö and itÆs hard to imagine that some people actually donÆt ski or ride there at least once or twice a season. If youÆve never been, think about visiting! |
