Originally developed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, this hidden jewel of a park offers swimming, fishing, hiking and a delightful campground.
The campground features two main loops; one better for tenters, the other best suited for RVers. The 30 sites in the RV loop include an electric hookup, a paved parking area, a picnic table and a lamp post.
We pulled into Sherando late on a warm April afternoon, settled into a site on a stream, took a walk, and enjoyed an utterly relaxed evening in a setting as private, quiet and scenic as any we've found in the mid-Atlantic.

Description of Sites:
Campsites at Sherando Lake are delightfully private and spacious. Ours backed up on a stream and had nice mountain views. Driveways for each campsite are paved and level - and the bathrooms had both hot and cold running water, as well as showers.
Nearby Attractions:
Two ponds - one seven acres, the other 24 acres - are onsite. Both offer fishing, while the larger pond also has a nice beach and swimming area. Nearby are both the Shenandoah National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway, as well as hundreds of miles of hiking trails.
