I loved reading about Black Mountain. I spent my Feb vacations there while i was in high school and working for Betty Whitney (She died only a few years ago at 101 and was still hking into her 90's) as waitress during that busy week. Later I spent a whole summer there and we climbed every mountain nearby. Betty would sometimes give us the whole day off so we could climb. Of course I skied Balck Mountain then. When I was just tike, my Dad took me there to ride Jake May's rope tow. You have never seen anything so fast! Jake May would never take money for our skiing. It was adventurous. I live too far away to get there (Williamstown, MA) but it's fun to see what's there. Have you looked up the Lost ski Area of New England? there is a website and it's pretty fun. Of course you are younger than I am. But I still ski and will! My Dad skied till he was 88. I ski on tele's also. More fun. thanks for your columns. I look for them every week in the Berkshire Eagle.
